"How I saved my hair with the cold cap in chemotherapy": the testimonial you need to read

Below, we share the full and verbatim testimony of Plusi X, a patient who used the Criobella cold cap to prevent hair loss during her chemotherapy treatment.

If you are reading this opinion you are lucky because you have heard about cold caps and I imagine that you are considering whether it is worth making the financial sacrifice or not. In my case, if they told me again today that my hair was going to fall out with the treatment, I would buy the caps again. At the end of the chemotherapy process, I have kept about 70% of my hair and I consider myself very lucky for that. Life changes completely when you are diagnosed with cancer (in my case a triple positive breast tumour) and after undergoing an operation, 12 chemotherapy sessions and 5 radiotherapy sessions, during these 6 months, when I look in the mirror in the morning, I have had to mentally reinvent myself every day. Having hair for all that time may seem superficial in the face of the seriousness of the problem but for me it has helped me enormously to live a normal life. The caps are easy to put on, although for a single person like me the bathroom mirror helped a lot. The velcro straps are a plus in terms of support and have been extremely useful as my head is very small. The instructions provided in the videos are very detailed and practical and after the nerves of the first day it is very easy to use. I set an alert on my mobile phone every half hour and went with the chemo wheeled apparatus to a freezer provided by my hospital. There I had the caps on standby and I would put them on right there helping me on a table and then I would go to the bathroom where I would put on the Velcro strips and adjust everything better in the mirror. Although the nursing assistants offered me help, I didn't need it thanks to the room they left me to change my cap. I put on the first cap half an hour before the chemo started and finished almost an hour later: I used 5 caps for one hour of chemotherapy with paclitaxel. On the third cap I started to feel the cold and I covered my bare arm with a shawl and drank a hot tea that I carried in a thermos flask. The thermal shock came with each new cap but I soon got used to it and I have to say that the routine of the caps helped the session to pass quickly. The rucksack that comes with the caps is wonderful and I found it extremely practical. Here I would also like to thank this company for giving us the opportunity with their cold caps to fight against hair loss and I would like to highlight their personal attention when I asked them about my doubts and their speed in providing me with my order. Thanks to their speed I was able to start my first session with the cold caps. For me having control over the side effects has given me optimism and a good mood and has made me tolerate better everything that I could not control.

What else do you need to know about the use of a cold cap in chemotherapy?

The use of the chemotherapy cold cap is especially recommended for treatments with Paclitaxel or Carboplatin, which are common in breast cancer and other tumours. It works by cooling the scalp and reducing blood flow to the scalp, which reduces the amount of chemotherapy reaching the hair follicles.

At Criobella we offer a complete set of cold caps, We have a team of support staff who will answer all of your questions.
